About this event
When writing a picture book manuscript, you have a limited number of words—and those words need to accomplish a lot. In just 300–500 words, you must tell a complete story while leaving room for the illustrations to tell a story of their own. The text should invite young listeners to feel, wonder, think, laugh—or all of the above.
Ideally, when the final page is turned, the response will be: “Read it again!” Making every word count is one of the great challenges of writing picture books. In this talk, picture book author Sue Lowell Gallion will share strategies she uses to write and revise for this unique format.
